International Education Week: Arcade Culture in the U.S. and Japan

Time

-

In 1978 Space Invaders became a global phenomenon, driving adoption of the Atari 2600 in the United States and apocryphally causing a coin shortage in Japan. Both Japan and the U.S. remain at the forefront of the video game industry, and arcades remain an important sector of the industry in both countries, but the games and activities available at Japanese and U.S. arcades have expanded and diversified since Space Invaders took the world by storm. Join humanities Associate Professor Carly Kocurek for an informal talk and discussion about arcade culture in the U.S. and Japan.
