In addition to pre-medical studies, Illinois Tech offers several dual-admission programs that provide pathways to a medical career.

Our dual-admission programs in medicine lead to a B.S. degree from Illinois Tech and either a D.O. or O.D. degree from Chicago-area schools. A pre-pharmacy program allows early entrance into pharmacy school at Midwestern University.

Students are guaranteed admission to osteopathic, dentistry, or pharmacy school. In some cases these programs are accelerated compared to traditional pathways.

The B.S./D.O. application for Illinois Tech’s program with Midwestern University is now open.

Illinois Tech and Midwestern University’s Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine (CCOM) partner to offer the Dual Admission Osteopathic Medicine (B.S./D.O.) program.

With the increasingly important role of technology in the diagnosis and treatment of disease, a rigorous undergraduate education in a technological field is ideal preparation to pursue a career in osteopathic medicine.

The osteopathic philosophy is to treat the whole person, not just the symptoms. It emphasizes the interrelationships of structure and function, and the appreciation of the body’s ability to heal itself.

Doctors of osteopathic medicine (DO) practice within this distinct field. Other than MDs, DOs are the only physicians in the United States who are fully trained and licensed to perform surgery and prescribe medicine.

Acceptance into the program requires a supplemental application and an interview with representatives of Illinois Tech and CCOM.

This is a 4 + 4 program (8 years total). Admission to the program is very competitive, with approximately 20 finalists selected to interview and ultimately 5–10 candidates accepted. Strong candidates generally take four years of math (including calculus), four years of English, and three years of science (including chemistry and physics) in high school, in addition to the minimum requirements below. This program is open to first-year applicants only.
