Mechanical Engineering (B.S.)/Materials Science and Engineering (M.ENG.)
Illinois Tech’s Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering/Master of Engineering in Materials Science and Engineering accelerated master's degree program allows students the opportunity to pursue advanced studies and complete both degrees in as few as five years.
Our undergraduate program in mechanical engineering prepares students for the design, development, and manufacturing of machinery and devices at all scales in the area of energy production and transfer, as well as the vast area of system design and control.
Our graduate program in materials science and engineering will study connections between materials’ structure and performance, including semiconductors, nanotechnology, and bio-materials. In addition, they learn how newly engineered materials can be used to advance the future of technology.
Students in this program will be able to address critical societal needs through research solutions in energy efficiency and the environment, biomechanics, robotics, and other emerging technologies.

The Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering/Master of Engineering in Materials Science and Engineering accelerated master's degree program will prepare you for such careers as:

Students applying to the Accelerated Master’s Program must have completed at least 60 credit hours with at least one full semester (12 credit hours) of applicable undergraduate study at the university.
Students must be at least one full semester (12 credit hours) away from undergraduate degree completion in order to apply.
Applicants are required to have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale; however, please consult individual departments for specific minimum GPA requirements.
