Student Organization Involvement
I am involved in on-campus biomedical engineering research with Dr. Vaicik and hold the role of House Manager for Kappa Phi Delta Sorority. In addition, I am a Duchossois Leadership Scholar and a member of Women in STEM and gender minorities.
Why did you choose your major/what do you want to do with your degree?
Science has been my primary passion from a young age. However, I specifically chose biochemistry, because of its career options. After I graduate from Illinois Tech, I plan to get my Ph.D. in a related field. Eventually, I would like to work in drug development.
What is your favorite thing about the Camras Scholars Program?
Beyond a doubt, the connections I've made. I have served on the executive board for the past two years and I couldn't imagine my life without the friendships that I've built. I'm also so proud to see younger scholars that I've known since they were freshmen, step up and bring positive change in our organization and around campus. Particularly all the Scholars involved in Pillar Projects.
Where do you see yourself in 20 years?
In 20 years professionally, I hope to be a principal investigator and have multiple publications in accredited journals. Personally, I would love to have a home and a few pets (at least a dog and a cat).
How do you think you best represent what it means to be a Camras scholar?
Relating to research I have been fortunate enough to be involved with three labs. I have worked on projects focusing on novel antibiotic targets to inhibit pathogenic bacteria, engineering antibodies to treat neurodegenerative disorders, and a biomedical implant lab working to create safer craniofacial implants.
