CAEE Seminar: Dr. Ralph Muehleisen - Materials, Models and Meters - Architectural Engineering Research at Argonne National Laboratory

Armour College of Engineering students are invited to join Dr. Ralph Muehleisen, adjunct professor in the Department of Civil, Architectural, and Environmental Engineering and Principal Building Scientist at Argonne National Laboratory, as he presents Materials, Models and Meters - Architectural Engineering Research at Argonne National Laboratory. This seminar will be of great interest to all students, especially those seeking employment at a research facility.

Abstract

The building Energy Decision and Technology Research (EBEDTR) program is the center for Architectural Engineering research and development at Argonne National Laboratory. In this talk, three areas of Argonne's building related research, Materials, Models and Meters will be discussed. Material scientists, chemical engineers and building scientists have teamed together to begin development of two materials for improving the performance of windows. Argonne's building energy modeling group has been developing advanced Bayesian methods for calibrating building energy models from limited and uncertain information. Electrical and automotive engineers have teamed up with building scientists to adapt metering technologies developed for electrical vehicle charging for use as low cost, highly accurate, building electrical sub-meters. Finally, building scientists have developed a new building information measurement system that uses sound waves to locate and size leaks in the building envelope.
