“INTELLIGENT PROCESS MONITORING AND CONTROL IN THE AGE OF INDUSTRY 4.0 AND BIOTECH 4.0”
Abstract
We are living through exciting times where advances in infotech and biotech are converging. Infotech sees digital accelerators in terms of high-performance computing, cloud-based systems, big data, and wireless sensors, to name a few. The biopharmaceutical industry continues to evolve by introducing more live modalities, establishing continuous manufacturing platforms, and increasing data generation from development to manufacturing. A personal research experience will be shared in Intelligent Systems starting in academia at Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) into implementing intelligent monitoring and control systems in biopharmaceutical manufacturing in a Fortune 500 biopharmaceutical company to serve patients. State-of-the-art applications from the field of artificial intelligence, sensors, in silico modeling and systems theory, will be provided to advance bio/pharmaceutical manufacturing processes in this talk.
Short Biography
Dr. Undey joined Amgen in 2003 and has held positions of increasing responsibility in Process Development, including providing manufacturing support, continuous process improvement of commercial products, and technology transfers. He formed the Digital Integration & Predictive Technologies (DIPT) team in 2013 with the mission to transform Amgen's business from data-rich to decision-smart. Dr. Undey led the introduction of real-time multivariate statistical process monitoring technology, Artificial Intelligence using Watson intelligent search via Natural Language Processing (NLP), and various Process Analytical Technology (PAT) initiatives, resulting in significant business benefits. In 2013, Dr. Undey and his team’s work was recognized with the CIO100 Award in Life Sciences for Amgen’s implementation of advanced data analytical solutions. Before joining Amgen, Dr. Undey worked at Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT), Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, in Chicago, Illinois, as a Sr. Postdoctoral Researcher. Dr. Undey has co-authored and co-edited two books and published in scientific journals and books in the areas of process systems engineering, PAT, artificial intelligence, process monitoring, control, supervision, biotechnology, and bioengineering. Dr. Undey taught the PAT grad seminar at MIT’s Department of Chemical Engineering and serves on the Advisory Board of IIT’s Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering. Dr. Undey received his B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. degrees, all in Chemical Engineering, from Istanbul University, Turkey. He also holds an Executive MBA degree from the University of California, Los Angeles, Anderson School of Management. He is based at Amgen’s headquarters in Thousand Oaks, California.
