ECE Research Seminar Series
Continuing with our Cyber Security Research Seminars, the ECE Department has the pleasure to present one of our own faculty and Distinguished-Speaker, Dr. Zuyi Li, Ph.D. Dr. Li will impart the knowledge he has cumulated in his research of "Smart Grid Cybersecurity: Challenges and Opportunities".
Abstract
Modern power systems have been undergoing the transition to smart grids featured by the wide use of information and communication technologies (ICT), which is not only beneficial in improving the economics and physical security of power system operation but also challenging in maintaining the cybersecurity of such a cyber-physical system. Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) has been at the forefront of worldwide smart grid research and development with the first-of-its-kind IIT Microgrid. This talk will present the challenges in smart grid cybersecurity as well as the research and development activities in smart grid cybersecurity at IIT. On the technical side, this talk will focus on the models, impacts, and protection strategies of false data injection attacks with incomplete information.
Biography
Zuyi Li received the B.S. degree from Shanghai Jiaotong University, Shanghai, China, in 1995, the M.S. degree from Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, in 1998, and the Ph.D. degree from the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT), Chicago, in 2002, all in electrical engineering. He is currently a Professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at Illinois Tech and the Associate Director of the Robert W. Galvin Center for Electricity Innovation. His research interests include power systems, smart grids, renewable energy, with an emphasis on large-scale optimization, economical and secure operation of electric power systems, energy efficiency, cyber security in smart grid, renewable energy integration, big data analytics, and electricity Internet of Things.
