ECE Research Seminar Series
The ECE Department is proud to present Distinguished-Speaker Susan Hallsby, J.D. MBA. for our ECE Research Seminar. Ms. Hallsby's talk, "Cybersecurity Law: What Laws Apply, How Courts Apply Laws, How Companies Decide to Comply, and Why You Should Know About Them," is the second Research Seminar this term focusing on the theme of Cyber Security.
Abstract
In the last 30 years, cybersecurity has grown from an unknown word to a rapid growth industry, field of technological study and area of concern for business. “A data breach can lead to high-stakes lawsuits, significant business disruptions, intellectual property theft, and national security vulnerabilities.” By using the 2014 Sony Picture hack as an example, we will examine; how existing laws are applied to address new growth areas such as cybersecurity, when new laws need to be added to the books, what laws address cybersecurity, how business adapts, and why you, as a technology expert, need to care.
