Geospatial Analysis in Health Studies
There is an increasing interest in perceiving and understanding health/disease issues from a geographic perspective. Modeling epidemics, tracking disease outbreaks, identifying environmental factors that may promote or hinder health, and evaluating access to health services are important in preventing illness and achieving wellness. Guest speaker Xun Shi, a professor of geography at Dartmouth College, will provide an introduction to geospatial analyses used in epidemiology and public health studies, including a discussion of some fundamental concepts, theories, methodologies, technologies, and case studies.
