Join Alumni Relations and others as they welcome Lucy Nobrega (BS ME ’93) (MS MAE ’98), senior engineer at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, on Wednesday, November 8, from 12:50–2 p.m. in S. R. Crown Hall. Nobrega is the lead vacuum engineer for the FAST/IOTA test facility, a superconducting electron linear accelerator whose purpose is to develop new approaches to generating, accelerating, and manipulating particle beams. She has been specializing in vacuum engineering for the past 16 years, since spending a year as a project associate in the LHC Vacuum Group at the Conseil de Recherche Nucleare (CERN). Nobrega received her B.S. and M.S. in mechanical engineering from Illinois Tech. She is a member of SWE, has an active role in diversity planning and outreach, and enjoys visiting elementary and middle schools for STEM education outreach. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking and is a leader in school garden design and coordination.
