Abstract

Innovations in biomedical engineering have resulted from the translation of discoveries in biomedical sciences to the applied setting. In the next decade, biomedical engineering will continue to mature as a discipline, while translational research will become a major thrust in academic institutions, with the commercialization of technology for clinical applications being an important entrepreneurial focus for academic researchers. The future of healthcare is one where patients enjoy quality care that is accessible from anywhere in the world, delivered via effective technology by competent caregivers.
