Security Seminar: OpenSession
Armour College of Engineering’s Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Department is announcing a seminar featuring Dr. Klara Nahrstedt of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Dr. Nahrstedt will present her lecture OpenSession:SDN-Assisted Session Management for Interactive Teleimmersive Systems.
Abstract: Current telepresence systems require a very strong real-time interactivity. Requirements are even more stringent in multi-stream and multi-site teleimmersive applications due to strong dependencies across geographically distributed streams. In this talk, Dr. Nahrstedt will present OpenSession, a cross-layer session-network control protocol for multi-stream, multi-site 3D teleimmersion. OpenSession aims to improve interactivity, resource utilization and scalability by decoupling application layer data and control plane functionality, and partially offload the data plane functionalities to network layer switches. The control of network switches during the session run-time happens via OpenSession which leverages the Software-Defined Networking (e.g., OpenFlow) assistance. The experiments with the cross-layer control session-network control are very encouraging, since OpenSession improves 3DTI interactivity and resource usage at the data plane.
