The Energy and Sustainability paradigm embodies all of the services required to continue to improve human, social, and economic well-being while preserving resources and the environment for future generations. Sustainable energy connects three major issues: economy, environment, and security. To achieve the desired emerging global paradigm, a comprehensive national and international energy and sustainability policy is mandatory.

Researchers at Wanger Institute for Sustainable Energy Research (WISER) believe that energy and sustainability policy should implement a least-cost strategy to continue the decarbonization of the global energy system, along with energy efficiency enhancement and conservation of energy and other resources. This transition will be facilitated in large part by the significant role of natural gas, coupled with energy efficiency enhancement (e.g., smart grid) and conservation, and CO2 capture.

Hamid Arastoopour, Henry R. Linden Professor of Engineering and Director of Wanger Institute for Sustainable Energy Research (WISER) at Illinois Institute of Technology, will present his lecture "Sustainable Energy Pathway." This lecture will provide an assessment of the strategy required for continuing the pathway toward global sustainable energy and present an overview of current and future research and education programs and activities at WISER that have been developed as a part of this strategy.

This event is open to all current Illinois Tech students. Attendance is mandatory for participants of the Armour R&D Summer Research Immersion Program.
