Description:

In this talk, we discuss the thermodiffusion of the ideal gas. First, we present a new approach in the derivation of the system of equations governing the thermodynamics of the ideal gas. The key to this new idea is to start with a given free energy and then use the laws of thermodynamics to derive the governing equations of the system. In the second part, we prove the existence of local-in-time weak solutions to this system. The proof relies on methods from the theory of the full Navier-Stokes-Fourier system.
