2019 MMAE Student Research Poster Competition

The annual MMAE Student Research Poster Competition was held on April 5, 2019 in the John T. Rettaliata Engineering Center. Twenty-four MMAE students, representing all degree levels, presented posters in the competition displaying the research work they have completed. Posters were judged by a panel of judges including members from the MMAE External Advisory Board, academy, and industry. The top scoring presenters from each academic level were awarded a certificate and monetary prize. Also, the MMAE Department presented departmental student awards to the best teaching assistant and research assistant and recognized faculty for their contributions to research and teaching. Congratulations to the following winners:

BS Category:

First Place – Julia Briden (BS ME 4th year) and Dr. Ruiz – "Adaptive Cycle Engine for Off-Road"

MS/MEng Category:

First Place – Aurora Lopez-Rubio (MEng MAE) and Dr. Datta-Barua – "Overview of Scintillation Events due to E Region and F Region as Inferred from SAGA"

Second Place – Ziyong Wang (MS MSE) and Dr. Shaw – "Doping of NaCrO 2 Cathode Materials to Enhance its Ionic Conductivity"

PhD Category:

First Place – Vahid Alizadehyazdi (PhD MAE candidate) and Dr. Spenko – "Gecko-like Adhesives with Low Dust Adhesion and High Shear Strength"

Second Place – Roohollah Parvizi (PhD MAE candidate) and Dr. Datta-Barua – "Multi-sensor Study of Lake Michigan's Surface Using GNSS-Reflectometry"

Third Place – Katherine Asztalos (PhD MAE candidate), Dr. Dawson, and Dr. Williams – "Lift Enhancement for Airfoils in Fully Separated Flows"
