Alumna Robin Chaurasiya selected to receive Illinois Tech‚ International Award of Merit
On February 9, the Illinois Tech Alumni Association announced the recipients of the Alumni Awards. Lewis College of Human Sciences is pleased to share that alumna Robin Chaurasiya (PPPS ’06, PSYC ’06) was selected to receive the International Award of Merit.
From Chaurasiya’s IPRO project at Illinois Tech grew Kranti, a nonprofit for young women aged 12-20 from Mumbai, India who are survivors of human trafficking and daughters of sex workers. Chaurasiya was recognized as a top 10 finalist for the 2016 Global Teacher Prize, a $1 million prize known as the Nobel Prize for teaching and announced by Pope Francis. Robin and Kranti have been featured by multiple renowned media outlets. Kranti students have led workshops for more than 10,000 people, delivered 11 TEDx Talks with more than 15,000 views, and have performed at Chicago’s Field Museum and the headquarters of Google and Facebook.
Chaurasiya and the other Alumni Award recipients will be recognized at a ceremony on Friday, April 21 at Illinois Tech.
