Applied Mathematics Hosts Annual Menger Day

Karl Menger taught mathematics at Illinois Institute of Technology from 1946 to 1971. Considered one of the great mathematicians of the twentieth century, he inspired countless students. The Department of Applied Mathematics commemorated his life with the 12th annual Menger Day academic celebration on April 1 on Illinois Tech’s Mies Campus. Xiao-Li Meng, Whipple V. N. Jones Professor of Statistics at Harvard University, featured lecturer, delivered “How Small Are Our Big Data: Turning the 2016 Surprise into a 2020 Vision,” examining the quality of big data versus its quantity.
