CMC Career Clinic Facilitates Interviews for Recent Stuart Graduates
IIT Stuart’s Career Management Center held its inaugural Career Clinic and Talent Recruiting Event earlier this month at DTC, designed to facilitate opportunities for recent graduates who are still in the job search process. Through a series of workshops and networking opportunities, the Stuart CMC connected nearly 60 recent graduates with over 30 employers, and hosted on-site interviews for employers to meet with their selected Stuart candidates.
Employers also heard from immigration attorney Bob White, principal in the Immigration Group of Masuda Funai, and learned the ins and outs of recruiting and hiring international job candidates for both internships and full-time positions.
“The candidates were of extremely high quality,” noted Jonathan Kloppenburg, Head of Solutions Management for RTS Realtime Systems. “They have all proven themselves in their respective disciplines and they largely meet the specific mix of technical and theoretical requirements required for success in the financial industry.” He added that his company specifically seeks candidates with technical skills in C++, Python, Java, Linux, and Matlab, along with mathematical skills and good problem solving skills, and that Stuart candidates were well-positioned for these requirements.
Several employers complimented the Stuart CMC team for the well-managed event. “The career management staff — Shahzad, Helen, and others — helped out a newbie like me to business and internships by answering all of my questions both during business hours and outside of that time,” said Chris Salgado, Founder and CEO of Chris’s Awesome Guacamole. “The event was well managed, the employers and companies were well taken care of and respected, and the students were professional and easy to take seriously.”
Students prepared for the event with an intensive two-day career clinic with certified career coach Jessica Worny Janicki, where they were able to practice networking and interviewing. “My interview skills were refined after the sessions, and I was more confident to meet and speak with the employers,” commented Bingjie Wu, B.S.B.A. ‘14. “I had interviews scheduled with Computhink, Chris’s Awesome Guacamole, and It's a Short.”
Employers appreciated that the recent graduates were well-prepared and professional. “We had held second technical interviews with some of the candidates and we are in the process of holding an in-person interview with one of your students,” noted Sue Huwaij, HR and Sales Administrator for Computhink. “We agree that you trained your students professionally."
