Cognitive Computing Course to Offer Access to IBM “Watson” Technology

IIT Stuart has been selected as one of the pilot schools for teaching Cognitive Computing, a revolutionary technology that IBM utilizes in its “Watson” computer, which has demonstrated capabilities ranging from recommending clinical treatments to defeating “Jeopardy!” game show champions.

The new Cognitive Computing course will be offered in the spring, taught by Martin Bariff, Associate Professor of Information Systems and Assistant Director of the M.S. MAC program. IBM states that the course “will empower students with the technical knowledge and hands-on learning required to develop new cognitive computing applications fueled by Watson’s intelligence.”

According to a recent article in The New York Times, IBM is announcing that various companies and nonprofit institutions will offer software applications using its “Watson” engine.
