Department of Computer Science Adds Expertise to Faculty
The Department of Computer Science at Illinois Institute of Technology has brought aboard a new faculty member who will expand educational opportunities and expertise in the growing department, beginning in the 2021–22 academic year.
The hire of Lan Yao as a senior lecturer will enhance the depth and breadth of educational opportunities in the growing department.
“I am excited to welcome this outstanding young scholar and educator to the Illinois Tech Department of Computer Science, and am looking forward to her impact on our teaching as a member of our intellectual community,” says Shlomo Argamon, professor of computer science and chair of the Department of Computer Science.
Yao’s research and teaching interests include network security, data and applications security, wireless networks, software systems, and data analytics. She first joined Illinois Tech as a visiting researcher in 2018, and has been an adjunct professor in the Department of Computer Science since June 2020. She earned her Ph.D. in computer software and theory from Northeastern University in China.
“Yao is an excellent teacher with broad research expertise who brings an infectious enthusiasm for the field and will broaden the range of courses we can offer students in all of our courses and programs,” Argamon says. “I am delighted to welcome her to our department.”
