E.J. Lee receives a grant to establish a new workshop series for students with disabilities
Eun-Jeong Lee, associate professor of psychology and director of the counseling and rehabilitation science division, has received a Fall 2017 Faculty Innovation Grant for her project, “Self-Advocacy Training Workshop for Students with Disabilities.” Lee will work with Nicole Ditchman, associate professor of psychology, Kelly Kazukauskas, clinical assistant professor of psychology, and Gary Walley, director of Illinois Tech’s Center for Disability Resources, to provide a series workshops to promote employment readiness and retention for students with disabilities.
The goals of the workshops are to provide students with the opportunity to engage in dialogue around the challenges faced by students with disabilities on campus, gain confidence in their ability to advocate for their support needs, and enhance their career readiness. To meet these objectives, Lee and her team have designed the curriculum for a series of six workshops to focus on self-advocacy, career development, disability rights, and impression management techniques. The workshops will be offered to students with disabilities registered for services through he Center for Disability Resources.
In addition to offering the workshops, the project will provide students in the Master of Science in Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling with experiential training opportunities at the center.
Established by Career Services in the 2016-17 school year, the purpose of the Faculty Innovation Grant program is to provide funding to faculty for activities directly related to the career and professional development of Illinois Institute of Technology students and/or the expansion of Illinois Tech's employer network.
