Hickernell Co-Leads Yearlong NSF-Funded SAMSI Program to Speed Up Monte Carlo Calculations
Fred J. Hickernell, professor of applied mathematics and director of the Center for Interdisciplinary Scientific Computation (CISC), is co-leading the yearlong program on Quasi-Monte Carlo and High-Dimensional Sampling Methods for Applied Mathematics at the National Science Foundation-funded Statistical and Applied Mathematical Sciences Institute (SAMSI). The program is drawing together international experts to form working groups to discover ways of speeding up the Monte Carlo calculations that involve complex functions of many variables. Hickernell will be giving a tutorial at the opening workshop Monday, August 28 through Friday, September 1 at Duke University, Durham, North Carolina.
