Humanities Prof. Hicks spoke to San Francisco Chronicle about women in tech

Orchestras used to be boys clubs - women generally only played "feminine" instruments like the harp. A shift occurred when orchestra directors started holding blind auditions. By 2003, more than one third of the players in the world's top orchestras were women.
