IIT Professor Emeritus Spencer Smith: 1927 – 2014

IIT Armour College of Engineering announces the recent passing of Professor Emeritus Spencer Smith. Dr. Smith, 86, of Evanston, was a IIT professor for more than 30 years and Chair of the Industrial and Systems Engineering Department (now MMAE). In the public sector, his career included work at Montgomery Ward, Raytheon and Mergenthaler Linotype. Consulting clients included the United Nations, Sears Roebuck and Company, Standard Oil, and McDonald’s. Dr. Smith was preceded in death by his wife Mildred (“Millie”).
