IIT Stuart Students Earn Top Placements in All-America Student Analyst Competition

IIT Stuart students Xiaobing Wang (M.S. Finance ‘14), Xiachen Wu (M.S. Finance ‘14) and Weiming Ma (M.S. Finance ‘14) are ranked among the top 100 competitors (from over 2,100 competitors) in Institutional Investor’s 2nd annual All-America Student Analyst Competition. Wang, Wu and Ma received recognition in Institutional Investor magazine, and details about their trading portfolios were published.

Ma, a spring 2014 graduate, selected stocks that were correlated and focused on keeping his portfolio as diversified as possible.

Wu, also a spring 2014 graduate, credits his success to investing almost exclusively in Facebook.

(Incidentally, Wang and Wu attended the same school, Dongyang Senior High School, from 2004-2007 in China’s Zhejiang Province.)

Wang, who anticipates graduating in December 2014, selected a diverse blend of stocks and options and also hedged her selections.

She used simple bookkeeping via Excel to record all the trades to help track her progress.
