IIT Stuart Undergraduate Among Winners of UBC Competition

IIT Undergraduate Business Council (UBC) concluded its Stock Screening and Analysis Competition, held in cooperation with Gregory Chaudoin, Instructor of Finance. Teams led by IIT Stuart B.S.B.A. student Yuezhong Qiu and engineering student Marcello Gomes were awarded the top prizes.

The two winning teams successfully built Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) programs using Microsoft Excel and gathered online data on more than one thousand financial stocks before applying financial formulas to identify the top 50 stock performers. “The stock screening methods we used in the competition are very practical and have been proven in the real market by beating the average return of the S&P 500 by 5-10%,” said Qiu. “As a student at Stuart, I understand the pure finance part, but the VBA coding was new to me, and Toufik Simo of UBC and Professor Chaudion did a marvelous job of preparing us for the challenges we encountered while participating.”
