IIT Students Place in 2008 Putnam Math Contest
Five IIT students sat for the 2008 William Lowell Putnam Mathematical Competition this past December, an annual team mathematics contest sponsored by the Mathematical Association of America. The students are: Max Clinkingbeard (AMATH 2nd year), Anne Marie Freudenthal (AMATH 2nd year), Mitch Isoda (AMATH 3rd year), Cory Knapp (AMATH 2nd year), and Kevin Ventullo (AMATH 4th year), all scored above the median. Everyone got at least 10 points (the median score this year being 1 point, out of 120 possible points.) Ventullo scored well enough to be listed in the Top 500 participants (out of 3627). For unknown reasons Ventullo's score did not contribute to the IIT team, but despite this fact, was ranked 51 (out of 405).
