International conference on the history of computing co-organized by Marie Hicks
Assistant Professor of History Marie Hicks is co-organizing an international conference on the history of computing that will be held in March 2017. "Command Lines: Software, Power, and Performance" will be held at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, Calif.
The conference will bring together leading experts and new voices in the field; the program is roughly half invited speakers and half submitted papers. The lineup of invited speakers includes—among others—Illinois Tech graduate Halcyon Lawrence, a graduate of the humanities department’s Technical Communication Ph.D. program, who will be speaking on the topic of linguistic imperialism in computing technologies. If you are interested in learning more, attending, or submitting a proposal to speak at the conference (deadline is Friday, December 30), visit the website and call for papers here.
