INTM Students Benefit From CSCMP Chicago Roundtable Seminar; “Career Lessons From the Top."

The first thing that hit home for me is how networking is key to career success. It's about more than just shaking hands and collecting business cards. It is about establishing lasting connections, and showing people what I can offer.

I also learned to be open to new experiences. Sitting silent until called upon will often result in missed opportunities. It is better to get in the game and play a part, even if it is unfamiliar, than to sit on the sidelines and watch.- Jay Morris, Co-Terminal BINTM/MITO student

Things that I learned at the CSCMP Seminar: Say “yes” to all opportunities, even if you think they’re not in your plans. You never know what new perspectives you may gain.

Market yourself: No one can promote you unless you know how to promote yourself with confidence.

Be flexible: Every process in supply chain is somehow connected, and it’s about how to deliver the right product to customers on time. Those who stand out, jump in to fix problems, showing that they are able to manage change and adapt to challenges.Huayan Lin, MITO student

Listening to two panel discussions among some of the top names in Supply Chain in the Chicago area was an eye-opening experience for the INTM students and other attendees at the CSCMP Chicago Roundtable Seminar, “Career Lessons From the Top,” at Loyola University in Chicago on February 12. The first panel was all women, senior level executives responsible for Supply Chain operations or consulting at McDonalds, DSC Logistics, Ulta Beauty, and PriceWaterhouseCoopers. The Moderator was Nancy Nix, Executive Director, AWESOME (Achieving Women's Excellence in Supply Chain Operations, Management and Education).

The second panel was all men, senior level executives responsible for transportation and logistics at Kraft Foods Group, Cintas Corporation, Associated, and Briggs Healthcare. The Moderator was Rick Blasgen, CEO & President, Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP). INTM Adjunct Professor and Career Advisor, Herb Shields, who attended the Roundtable noted a theme among the presenters regarding the soft skills that are important for career advancement.

The CSCMP Chicago Roundtable is a group managed by a board of directors who are dedicated to leading the evolving supply chain management profession. The Roundtable organizes local events and activities for professionals and students designed to develop, advance, and disseminate supply chain knowledge and research, and help members build and improve their supply chain management skills.
