ITM Chair Awarded Harvard’s Belfer Center Fellowship
Calvin Nobles, chair of Illinois Institute of Technology’s Department of Information Technology and Management, has been awarded a nonresident fellowship with the Cyber Project at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at Harvard University’s Kennedy School.
Nobles is one of five new Belfer Center Cyber Project fellows for the 2021–22 academic year. Nobles says the fellowship provides opportunities to write, publish, speak, and interact with leading experts, practitioners, policymakers, and academics on a wide range of policy research areas from the federal, state, local, and private sectors. The aim of the Belfer Center’s Cyber Project is to become the premier home for the rigorous and policy-relevant cybersecurity-related responses to contemporary issues.
“The appointment is humbling given the number of people that applied for the Cyber Fellowship at Harvard,” Nobles says. “I am grateful, thankful, and look forward to representing Illinois Institute of Technology in my endeavors as a cybersecurity fellow at Harvard University.”
The Cyber Project Fellowship pursues its goals through three lines of effort. The first is the fellows program composed of traditional academics, including pre-doctoral and post-doctoral students, visiting researchers and faculty, and rotating representatives from government agencies and private-sector companies. The second is a research agenda of policy-relevant scholarship that offers solutions to pressing national security challenges posed by developments in cybersecurity. Finally, the fellowship’s teaching curriculum trains tomorrow’s leaders by providing them with skills to make informed decisions about technology and cybersecurity throughout their careers in public policy.
“I look forward to engaging with distinguished cybersecurity experts, educators, and other esteemed fellows in addressing critical cybersecurity needs to support national and international security objectives,” Nobles says.
The Belfer Center is the hub for research, teaching, and training in international security and diplomacy, environmental and resource issues, and science and technology policy at the Kennedy School. The center integrates research conducted in social sciences, natural sciences, and technology by practitioners in government, diplomacy, the military, and business.
