In Memoriam: Dr. Amreek Singh Paintal

IIT Armour College of Engineering is deeply saddened by the recent passing of Dr. Amreek Singh Paintal on September 9, 2015. A longtime adjunct professor of civil and architectural engineering, Dr. Paintal taught hydraulics and hydrology courses in the IIT Armour College Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering for over 30 years.

Amreek emigrated to the United States from India in 1965 to earn his doctorate, after which he continued to excel in his field. His research is listed among classical papers in hydraulic engineering. He retired as a supervising civil engineer and the head of the sewer design section at the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago where he served for 40 years.

His former students and colleagues at IIT remember him as an excellent teacher and scholar that will be greatly missed. Our condolences go to his wife and children and their families.
