MMAE Led Team Wins at IPRO Day Competition
An Interprofessional Projects Program (IPRO) project led by Rowe Family Chair Professor in Sustainable Energy and Professor of Materials Science and Engineering, Leon Shaw, won two awards at Illinois Institute of Technology IPRO Day on April 21st, 2017. The project, "Fabrication and Commercialization of High Power Li-ion Batteries" was named the recipient of the Engineering Dean's Choice Award and winner of IPRO Track 9.
The goal of the project was to fabricate and commercialize high power Li-ion batteries that can charge and discharge in a matter of a few minutes and still possess large specific capacity and long cycle life. The interdisciplinary IPRO team included 19 students from three colleges and eight majors across Illinois Tech.
The student team members were: Haneen Alsweis (Business Administration), Michel Branquet (Chemical Engineering), Changlong Chen (Chemical Engineering), San Dinh (Chemical Engineering), Yuxia Fang (Materials Engineering), William Gordon (Business Administration), Washeq Khan (Electrical Engineering), Kevin Little (Mechanical Engineering), Mei Luo (Materials Engineering), Ben Martin (Mechanical Engineering), Sam Montag (Electrical Engineering), John Munoz (Aerospace Engineering), Ricky Nguyen (Computer Engineering), Catherine Schweigert (Human Science), Zhepu Shi (Materials Engineering), Bowen Sun (Materials Engineering), Weiliang Yao (Materials Engineering), Yuan Wang (Materials Engineering), Yu Zhou (Materials Engineering).
