NAI Elects Kapoor as Senior Member

Sanjiv Kapoor, professor of computer science, has been elected a senior member of the National Academy of Inventors. According to the NAI website, senior members foster a spirit of innovation within their communities through enhancing an inventive atmosphere at their institutions, while educating and mentoring the next generation of inventors. Senior membership is exclusively available to inventors affiliated with an NAI member institution, of which Illinois Institute of Technology is one.

The academy cites Kapoor’s “success in patents, licensing, and commercialization,” and in producing “technologies that have brought, or aspire to bring, real impact on the welfare of society.”

Kapoor has multiple issued patents to his credit. One is in hosting computer services, which is now owned by IBM. The remaining patents are in hierarchical abstract data organization systems, from his work at Illinois Tech. Kapoor says he has been applying efficient algorithm design to practice over the last 20 years.
