Psychology Professor Roya Ayman Named a Fellow of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology
Professor of Psychology Roya Ayman has been named a fellow of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology for 2019. She will be recognized as one of 20 recipients of the fellowship on Thursday, April 4, at the 34th annual SIOP Conference.
SIOP is a membership organization for individuals practicing and teaching I-O psychology. The group is dedicated to research that explores workplace issues, and is aimed at fostering well-being and positive performance among employees and organizations. Ayman’s own research interests include cross-cultural research, leadership in the workplace, women and minorities in management, work and family interface, and work attitudes and behaviors.
“I was honored and humbled to hear of the nomination and subsequently being named as a fellow,” Ayman says. “I am grateful to all my colleagues over the years who collaborated with me, and for the wonderful learning opportunities that came in my career path. Also, I have had wonderful students and alumni who have helped in the development and maintenance of our I-O program, and who are the backbone and the major strength of my work as a mentor.”
To be considered for an SIOP fellowship, individuals must be active in the society for at least 10 years and must have made a significant impact in their field. They must be nominated by another SIOP member and endorsed by a minimum of three SIOP fellows.
Ayman credits her collaborators, Karen Korabik, an emeritus faculty member at the University of Guelph, and Saba Ayman-Nolley, an emeritus faculty member at Northeastern Illinois University,on her research on the role of culture and gender in leadership. She also credits colleagues from 10 countries on her cross-cultural research on work and family interface, which culminated in a recent book, The Work-Family Interface in Global Context.
