Ullica Segerstrale speaks at Future of Education Conference in Rome
Ullica Segerstrale, professor of sociology in the Department of Social Sciences, recently traveled to Rome to present an invited paper at The Future of Education, an international conference organized by the World Academy of Art and Science, the World University Consortium, and Roma Tre University. The conference addressed the mismatch between current higher education and the actual competencies and skills desired by future employers. Segerstrale’s invited paper was entitled, “The Teacher as Catalyst: Skills Development and Self Discovery in Group Contexts.” She described her own teaching experiments as well as Illinois Tech’s Interprofessional Projects Program as directly aimed at developing a broad base of student competencies. She also served as chair for the session Innovation, Creativity, and Technology.
