Zhen Chosen by Managerial Finance to Receive Award for Doctoral Research

Stuart alumna Xinting Zhen (Ph.D. MSC ’18) has been chosen by the editorial team of Managerial Finance as a Highly Commended Award winner of the 2018 Emerald/EFMD Outstanding Doctoral Research Awards.

Zhen is recognized in the Finance category for her dissertation, titled “Three Essays in Financial Institutions and Corporate Finance.” Associate Professor of Finance Haizhi Wang served as her thesis advisor.

The Emerald/EFMD awards are presented annually for excellence in relevant and impactful applied research in business and management. Zhen’s research was selected from among nearly 300 submissions this year.

In fall 2018, Zhen became assistant professor of business administration at Saint Michael’s College in Colchester, Vermont, where she teaches business finance. She mentored the college’s CFA Institute Research Challenge team, which won the Vermont competition and participated in the Americas Regional competition in late April 2019.

She has published two papers: “Bank Market Power and Loan Contracts: Empirical Evidence” in Economic Notes with co-authors Haizhi Wang, Iftekhar Hasan, and Liuling Liu, and “Whom You Borrow from Matters: Universal Banks and Firm Innovation” in Managerial Finance with co-authors with Haizhi Wang, Desheng Yin, and Xiaotian Tina Zhang.
