Empowering Young Women in India
The Mumbai, India, charity that Robin Chaurasiya founded, Kranti, empowers young women to become agents of social change. Ranging in age from 12–22, the women at Kranti are survivors of human trafficking and are daughters of sex workers. Kranti transforms the lives of these women by providing them with housing, mental health counseling, education, and the opportunity to volunteer in their communities. She was a top 10 finalist for the 2016 Global Teacher Prize.
“I spent so many years thinking that I was going to fight and change the world, but the best thing I can do for the world is to change myself,” says Chaurasiya. I’ve also discovered that the best part about being a teacher is not what I teach but what I learn. Anyone who spends time with my kids and sees their positive energy and hears their laughter can look at their own life and realize the chance they have to be agents of happiness.”
