Idea Shop
“Devoted to Creation”
Illinois Tech alumnus Dane Christianson (ME ’15) took full advantage of the Idea Shop while at Illinois Tech. Utilizing the shop’s 3D printer, Christianson created the X-Cube twisty puzzle while he was a student. Initially crowdfunded, the X-Cube is now sold on Amazon.
Make, Build, Invent, Innovate
Students use professional tools in the Idea Shop to do everything from design and build a project for an IPRO course or competition, to prototype their own inventions. Full-time technicians guide students in using the equipment and troubleshooting their work. Because the Idea Shop is housed in the Kaplan Institute, students can also access Kaplan Institute's resources for aspiring entrepreneurs, including mentoring and special programming.
