Professor and Chair of the Department of Biology and Senior or Principal Scientist at IITRI
Illinois Institute of Technology (Illinois Tech) and IIT Research Institute (IITRI) are soliciting applications for a unique joint appointment as Professor and Chair of the Department of Biology at Illinois Tech and Senior or Principal Scientist at IITRI. The successful candidate will allocate 70 percent effort to the biology department and 30 percent effort to research at IITRI. This position will begin with the 2022–2023 academic year.
Investigators with robust, extramurally funded research programs in any area of biology are invited to apply. IITRI and Illinois Tech offer strong collaborative research opportunities in infectious disease, drug discovery/development, cell and molecular biology, pulmonary biology, cancer biology, and preclinical toxicology and pharmacology.
The Department of Biology offers undergraduate and graduate programs in molecular biology, biochemistry, microbiology, bioinformatics, and biophysics. IITRI operates 100,000 square feet of research space, including a large vivarium, cell and molecular biology laboratories, analytical chemistry suites, and in vitro and in vivo laboratories providing containment at the (A)BSL-2 and -3 levels. IITRI also maintains a large library of select agents.
The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. in a life sciences-related discipline and the current academic rank of full professor (preferred) or associate professor with tenure. It is expected that the Illinois Tech appointment will be made at the level of full professor with tenure; the IITRI appointment will be made at the Senior or Principal Scientist level, based on funding history.
