Prospective students who wish to take courses online at Illinois Institute of Technology generally must first be admitted to a degree, certificate, or professional development program. For specific information on admission to these programs, please visit Graduate Admission pages.
Individuals are welcome to apply to take courses in a non-degree capacity. Non-degree status does not confer automatic admission into a degree-granting program and limits the number of overall credits that can be taken. For more information, visit the Certificate and Non-Degree Applicants page.
Students taking online courses are Illinois Tech students and are subject to all of the same policies and procedures as on-campus students in face-to-face courses.
Complaint Process
Illinois Institute of Technology is required to provide all prospective and current students with the contact information of the state agency or agencies that handle complaints against post-secondary education institutions offering distance learning within their respective state. Should a student have concerns, issues, or complaints, Illinois Tech expects that they will be raised and resolved within Illinois Tech and its processes. Please see your department for details on complaint procedures.
Should distance learning students need to raise their concerns above the institutional level, students may use the Online Complaint System from the Illinois Board of Higher Education. Additionally, students outside Illinois may find their state and its appropriate agency in the Student Complaint Information by State and Agency listings regularly published by WCET/State Authorization Network. WCET (WICHE Cooperative for Educational Technologies) is a division of the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education.

Illinois Tech's Center for Disability Resources coordinates the university’s efforts to accommodate students with disabilities, including students taking online courses. All accommodations for students with disabilities are determined on an individualized basis. Students are advised to contact the Center for Disability Resources either before the course begins or at the beginning of the semester to submit appropriate documentation and discuss accommodations. If you need an accommodation for your online course—testing accommodations, textbooks in an alternate format, etc.—please contact the Center for Disability Resources to make a request. Advance planning is critical to ensuring that accommodations are provided in a timely manner.
