Classroom Technologies

Illinois Tech provides six types of classroom technology levels across the university. Five of the classroom types are designed to allow students to participate synchronously on-line, asynchronously on-line, or both.

The Office of Technology Services supports the presentation technology in over 100 classrooms on IIT’s Mies and Rice Campuses as well as the non-Kent classrooms at the Conviser Law Center and provides design and programming for the Chicago-Kent classrooms. A set of university standards determines the equipment installed in each classroom. Those standards may be found here. Detailed presentation system instructions are provided on the desk/podium. Copies are also available below.

Contact the OTS Support Desk for assistance with any classroom technology.

OTS has produced several videos to assist you with utilizing these rooms. We encourage you to review these videos before your class starts.

PRINTED INSTRUCTIONS

The preferred method for connecting an instructor provided device in all classrooms is via wireless connectivity provided by Crestron AirMedia. The AirMedia Windows app is available here. The AirMedia Mac OSX app is available here. Alternatively, there is a male HDMI cable and a male VGA cable available. Adapters for other types of connections are the responsibility of the instructor. Room Types

Full Hybrid

Standard

These rooms are standard classrooms designed to allow faculty to teach in-person, synchronously on-line, and lecture capture (record) simultaneously. They include a microphone array, faculty controlled camera, a fixed camera, a PC, a faculty PC connection, desktop monitor to view remote students, control system, and a device to record/upload content to Panopto.

Auditorium

These rooms are auditorium style rooms designed to allow faculty to teach in-person, synchronously on-line, and lecture capture (record) simultaneously. They include a microphone array, two faculty controlled cameras, a PC, a faculty PC connection, desktop monitor to view remote students, control system, and a device to record/upload content to Panopto.

PC Classroom

These rooms are student PC equipped classrooms designed to allow faculty to teach in-person, synchronously on-line, and lecture capture (record) simultaneously. They include a microphone array, faculty controlled camera, a fixed camera, a PC, a faculty PC connection, desktop monitor to view remote students, control system, and a device to record/upload content to Panopto.

Full Hybrid - Cart based

These rooms are temporary classrooms designed to allow faculty to teach in-person, synchronously on-line, and lecture capture (record) simultaneously. They include a microphone array, faculty controlled camera, a PC, a faculty PC connection, 70” monitor to view remote students, and a device to record/upload content to Panopto (everything above except the control system and second camera).

Full Hybrid - PC based

These rooms are classrooms at the CLC designed to allow faculty to teach in-person, synchronously on-line, and lecture capture (record) simultaneously. They include a microphone array, a fixed camera, a PC, desktop monitor to view remote students, and a control system. The PC is used for three purposes: to display content, to stream to the synchronous students, and to record/upload content to Panopto.

Basic Cart (instructor provides PC)

These rooms are academic labs/studios designed to allow faculty to teach in-person, synchronously on-line, and/or lecture capture (record) simultaneously. They include a cart with a 55” monitor, HDMI cable, and USB web camera (including microphone). The faculty must provide their own PC or Mac. The faculty PC is used for all functions needed, including displaying content, streaming to the synchronous students via Blackboard Collaborate, and to record/upload content to Panopto via the desktop recorder application.

STANDARD CLASSROOM

These rooms are standard classrooms designed to allow faculty to teach in-person only. They include a faculty PC connection to the projector or monitor and a control system in most rooms. They cannot do any on-line streaming.

NO TECHNOLOGY

These rooms are standard classrooms designed to allow faculty to teach in-person only. They do not include any technology (no projector or monitor).

Hybrid Classroom Requirements

To teach in any of the Full Hybrid rooms you MUST download some PC/Mac drivers that are required to allow the equipment to function with your PC/Mac. All drivers not listed automatically install onto your computer when the USB cable at the desk is connected to your laptop.
