Below you will find some of the most commonly used technology resources that are available to students at Illinois Tech. You can also download the Introduction to Campus Technology presentation from SOAR (Orientation).
Blackboard
Blackboard is an electronic course-management system that enables interaction between students and faculty. Blackboard incorporates document sharing, discussion boards, email, an online grade book, assignment drop boxes, chat rooms, small group areas, online quizzes, and more. To log in, search for Blackboard in the Illinois Tech Portal.
Computer Discounts
The Office of Technology Services works with the academic programs to establish recommended computer specifications for Illinois Tech's students. These specifications are minimum requirements. We recommend you check with your academic program on any specific requirements needed,
Illinois Tech students receive special pricing from Dell and Apple.

Computer Labs
Computers labs are located throughout Mies Campus.
All students are provided a free Illinois Tech email account. Accounts can be accessed via Illinois Tech Portal or directly via mail.google.com. Your email address is
Your free student email account includes a web interface for mail, contacts, calendar, and the other Google Workspace applications, including Google Drive.
Illinois Tech Portal
Illinois Tech Portal is your gateway to many web-based services at Illinois Tech. This is where you will register for classes, check your grades, view your tuition account, request transcripts, refill your printing account, and much more. Most computer systems at Illinois Tech use your Illinois Tech Portal username and password. Students receive their portal login information via email from the Office of Admissions or in person at student orientation. If you have forgotten your portal password, please use the Forget Password link, which is located immediately below the login button. Once you answer your secret questions, your password will be reset. You can also reset your password by calling or visiting the Support Desk, which is located on the upper level of the Galvin Library.
Printing
The PaperCut system allows Illinois Tech students to print from computers in university computer labs as well as from personal devices. All students receive a set amount of free printing credits each semester. When you have exhausted your allotted printing credit, you can add funds for printing via TechCash. To add funds to you TechCash account, please visit https://get.cbord.com/iit/. Members of the Illinois Tech community can send a print job from their personal device (PC, Mac, tablet or smartphone) to any printer.
Residence Hall Technology
The State Street Village residence hall rooms are equipped with both high speed (100Mbps full-duplex) wired internet connections and wireless internet access. Instructions to connect are here.
The McCormick Student Village residence hall rooms are equipped with both wired internet connections (10Mbps half-duplex) and wireless internet access.Instructions to connect are here.
Carman Hall and Gunsaulus Hall residence hall rooms are equipped with wireless internet access only.

Support Desk
The Support Desk is your resource for technical assistance. The Support Desk provides free assistance via phone, email, and Web for current Illinois Tech students. Students can also visit the Support Desk at the Galvin Library for free walk-in technical support. The Support Desk staff will work with all Illinois Tech wireless networks, telephones, email accounts and software, and can troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software related issues with Mac and PC operating systems.
Wireless Internet Access
Wireless network access is available on all Illinois Tech campuses. There are wireless access points installed in all university buildings, and wireless is accessible from all university classrooms and labs. Illinois Tech students can connect to the wireless network with any wireless device using their Illinois Tech Portal username and password. Just follow the setup instructions. If you experience difficulty connecting, please contact the Support Desk for assistance.

Illinois Tech Portal
Shortly after you apply, you will receive an e-mail containing your Illinois Tech Portal login information. Once you receive this email, please login to the portal with your username and temporary password. The system will prompt you to change your password and select a security question.
PIN (Registration)
Your PIN is used only for registration purposes. The PIN is not issued by OTS but by your advisor. Undergraduates may have to see their advisor each semester to receive a PIN for registration. Graduate students may only need to see an advisor once.
Student Email
Most students will all have an email address that ends in @hawk.iit.edu; Institute of Design students will all have an email address that ends in @id.iit.edu; Chicago-Kent College of Law students will all have an email address that ends in @kentlaw.iit.edu.
Staff's and faculty's email addresses will usually end in @iit.edu, @id.iit.edu, @kentlaw.iit.edu, or @stuart.iit.edu.
Portal ID
Your portal ID is the login name/username you use to access the portal and other resources. It is the same as the beginning part of your email address. If your email address is abc123@hawk.iit.edu, then your portal ID would be abc123.
A #/CWID
A01000001
Your "A number" or CWID is a unique number used to identify each student at the university. The CWID is used instead of a Social Security number.
