A longstanding partnership between the Industrial Technology and Management program and the electrical construction industry helps International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) 134 journeyman electricians continue their education and obtain a Bachelor of Industrial Technology and Management (BINTM) at Illinois Institute of Technology.
This partnership provides an educational pathway for IBEW 134 members who have attended the IBEW-NECA Technical Institute (IN-TECH) in Alsip, Illinois, and wish to earn a bachelor’s degree that will prepare them for managerial positions in industry. Those who obtain an Associate in Applied Science in Electrical Construction Technology from Richard J. Daley College may qualify to transfer to Illinois Tech to pursue a bachelor’s degree through two years of study. IBEW 134 members who have already earned a bachelor's degree may qualify to pursue a Master of Industrial Technology and Operations at Illinois Tech.
This opportunity is offered through the Electrical Joint Apprenticeship and Training Trust, with support from the Electrical Contractors’ Association of the City of Chicago and IBEW Local Union 134.
Students study a broad range of topics to familiarize themselves with applied technologies and to enhance their decision-making and leadership skills. IBEW 134 students are encouraged to pursue INTM’s specialization in industrial facilities, which focuses on construction technology, project management, construction estimating, facilities management, sustainable operations, and contract administration.

IBEW/NECA Tuition Reimbursement Program
To further encourage IBEW 134 members to pursue management positions within the industry, the IBEW/NECA Tuition Reimbursement Program (INTRP) was established to provide financial assistance toward the completion of the BINTM degree for undergraduate students. The program provides up to $6,000 in tuition assistance for four to five courses per year. For graduate students, the program covers 50% of tuition for three courses per year. An application is required to confirm eligibility, and a request for reimbursement must be submitted at the start of each semester.
